Cultural Exchange Cologne – Istanbul – Cologne – Prague – Cologne

When three old, historic cities, on whose faces epochs have left their mark, and the many cultures with which they have been pregnant for thousands of years, and which were finally born, if these cities were talking to each other, what would they have to tell each other? Cologne – Istanbul – Cologne – Prague – Cologne Your birth, your developments, your transformations, your present, your future? How can they withstand the destructiveness of people who destroy the environment, pollute the air, produce mountains of waste, deforest the forests, poison the waters and overpopulate the world? Although they are so different in architecture, social and religious structures, politics, culture and language, what do they have in common? Istanbul, for example. Once Constantinople or Byzantium, the pearl necklace of the East, the bridge between Asia and Europe with its diverse cultural offerings, its colourful nights. How does the city cope with the constant enormous increase in population and others, its special problems, and why is Istanbul still so fascinating despite everything? Or Prague with its historical ruins, its wars, its changing ideologies and cultures. Prague, witness of many battles and until yesterday still excluded from the world and still not over it. Prague, why is it still worth seeing for many like a cultural place of pilgrimage? And Cologne – one need not speak of the cathedral and the Museum Ludwig – how many cultures has it opened its arms to today. Cologne, which gives people of international origin a home, with its carnival, its Rhenish humour. Is it the Rhine or the Kölsch or the dialect that turns Cologne into „COLOGNE“? International artists – writers, painters, dancers and photographers – want to be the mouthpiece of these three cities. They want to get to know these cities, talk to them, exchange ideas and share their concerns with others. This project „The mouthpiece of cities“ goes beyond the normal tourist presentation of cities. The artists will paint, write and photograph these cities from their artistic perspective and thus experience and bring them to us. Their goal is to communicate directly with the cities. These cities have never spoken to us in such a complex, international and colourful way. Isn’t it exciting and interesting to let these cities „speak“ in this way?
